“Burst down those closet doors once and for all, and stand up and start to fight.”

Pride Talks is OUT!
In honor of National Coming Out Day, Pride Talks wants the world to know: WE’RE OUT!
It’s been a long time in the making. We knew who we were before we could express it in words. We had an inkling before we had in idea, before it was organized into categories and statements and complete thoughts. We’ve known for years, and finally have the courage to actually do it.
It’s nerve-wracking and kind of fumbly. Searching for the right words at the right time and preparing for any and every response is a lot of pressure. You can’t un-ring the bell. Once it’s out there, it can’t be taken back.
Coming out prioritizes authenticity above fear of judgement. There is no claim of perfection, or expertise, or finality. It is owning imperfections because they’re part of the journey. It’s a commitment to strive to be the best possible version of ourselves. If we waited until we were perfect, and finished with our journey, we would never come out.
As our supporters and allies – you see us. You see us for who we truly are, and we can’t thank you enough for being our BFFs. (Also, we’re counting on you to let us know if there’s toilet paper on our shoe, and tell us when our hair looks cute.)
The most important reason to come out, though, is for those who can’t. For many valid and important reasons, there are still many people who cannot come out, or are not yet at that point in their journey, who need the solidarity, visibility, and advocacy. They need the hope – we all do. As Harvey Milk said in his last speech in 1978: “You gotta give ’em hope.”
the spirit of National Coming Out Day, Pride Talks will be featuring blogs all month long about the topic of coming out!
